PROGRESS OF WORK
 
1. Pre-construction Activities

Preliminary Engineering Design

Preliminary engineering design of the ISP project has been completed since mid of 1996. The design of the south section, Hua Lumphong - Huai Kwang, was made by a group of consultants led by Halcrow Asia, whereas the north section was by Dorsch Consult.

Selection of Consultants

(1) Project Management Consultant (PMC)

The MRTA has engaged a group of consultants led by De Luew Cather International Inc. to act as their Project Management Consultant (PMC) with a cost of 947 million baht. PMC will perform various duties, including inspection of engineering design, control of the overall project schedule, and coordination among contractors and concessionaire, etc. Their work will not be complete until a successful commercial operation of the system.


(2) Construction Supervision Consultants (CSC1 & CSC2)

The MRTA has engaged a group of consultants led by Louis Burger International, Inc. to be their Construction Supervision Consultant (CSC 1) with an approximate cost of 1,113 million baht for supervising the construction of civil work contracts I, II and Vand to be Front End Design Consultant (FEDC) with an approximate cost of 50 million baht for providing the preliminary system-wide M&E design interface required for all the designated contractors.

(3) M&E Supervision Consultant (MESC)

The MRTA has engaged a group of consultants led by Electrowatt Engineering (Thailand) to supervise the installation of the M&E works of the concessionaire, with a cost of 480 million baht.

Selection of Civil Work Contractors

(1) Contract I : Underground Structure - South

The MRTA has appointed the Joint Venture BCKT to design and construct the underground structures-south. The contract was signed on November 17, 1996 with the cost of 23,900 million baht (VAT excluded). According to the contract, the contractor has to complete the work within five years.

(2) Contract II : Underground Structure-North

The MRTA has engaged the Joint Venture ION to design and construct the underground structures-north with the cost of 28,500 million baht (VAT excluded) on July 10, 1997. Like Contract I, the contractor has to complete the work within five years.

(3) Contract III : Depot

The contract has signed with Siam/Nippon Metro Consortium on November 24, 1998. This 6,329 million baht contract (VAT excluded) has to complete within three years.

(4) Contract IV : Trackwork

The contract has been signed with Joint Venture CKSL on October 15, 1999 with the contract amount of 3,019.5 million baht (VAT excluded). The contract will be fully completed within mid of 2003.

(5) Contract V : Lifts and Escalators

The MRTA has engaged the MMW Joint Venture with the cost of 1,810 million baht (VAT excluded) on November 12, 1998. The contract will be fullly completed within mid of 2003.

Selection of M&E Works and Operation Concession

MRTA has signed the concession contract with the Bangkok Metro Company Limited (BMCL) on August 1, 2000.

2. Process of Works

Up to the end of May 2002, the actual overall progress of works is estimated at 95.74 against 95.95% planned.
