PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION |

Following a clear cabinet resolution on September 12, 1995 regarding
the implementation of the ISP, MRTA has revised an early implementation
plan to meet present conditions and requirements. In brief, the
actual construction works have started in December 1996 and are
going to take approximately 6 years to complete in year 2003. After
system commissioning, it is planned that the north section open
to public at the end of year 2002 and full system in middle of year
2003.
1) Civil Works
The construction of civil works are undertaken by MRTA and are
divided into 5 different contracts. The “Design and Build” approach
is also adopted for quick implementation of this project. The civil
works contracts are listed as follows:
Contract I:
Underground Structures Underground Structures - South Section (Hua
Lamphong - Huai Khwang)
Contract II:
Underground Structures - North Section (Huai Khwang - Bang Sue)
Contract III:
Depot
Contract IV:
Trackworks
Contract V:
Lifts and Escalators
2) M&E Works
The Mechanical and Electrical (M & E) works will be undertaken
by private sector (concessionaire) through a concession contract.
The concessionaire will also be responsible for the operation and
maintenance of the system for a 25-year concession period. The E
& M works are comprised as follows:
(1) Rolling Stock
(2) Signalling and communication
(3) Power supply
(4) Automatic fare collection
(5) Equipment for the Depot
3) Project Consultants
Four groups of internationally experienced consultants are commissioned
to assist the MRTA during the implementation of this project as
follows:
(1) Project Management Consultant (PMC)
(2) Construction Supervision Consultant for Contract I, II and
V (CSC1)
(3) Construction Supervision Consultant for Contract III and IV
(CSC2)
(4) Mechanical & Electrical Supervision Consultant (MESC)
