PROJECT CHARACTERISTICS
(1) Alignment
The Bang Sue -Tha Phra Section (so called “Circle Line”) starts from Bang Sue Station, passing along Pracharat Sai 2 Road. It crosses Chao Praya River turns left along Charansanitwong Road until it reaches Tha Phra at Petch Kasem and Charansanitwong intersection. The length is 13.1 km with 7 elevated stations.
The Hua Lamphong - Bang Khae Section starts at Hua Lamphong Station. It goes along Charoen Krung Road, passes China Town, Wang Burapha, and then turns left at Wat Poh before crossing under the Chao Phraya River at Pak Khlong Talart.
Passing through Bangkok Yai, it finally enters Petch Kasem Road and ends at Bang Khae. The 4 underground stations end at Tha Phra before turning to be elevated for 6 stations. The length is 13. 9 km. with 8.9 km elevated station and 4.8 km underground stations.
(2) Structure
For the underground portion, in the East side of Bangkok where the development density is high and right of way is limited, the single tunnel will be applied.
While in the area where right of way is available, twin tunnel is selected. For the elevated portion, the typical is a twin-track viaduct deck supported by a row of single piers in the median of the roads. However, portal frames will be employed to support the deck where the central median does not exist or where the single-column support cannot be constructed without substantially restricting the traffic flow.
(3) Stations
There will be 17 stations along the route, 4 of which will be underground (in Hua Lamphong- Bang Khae Section) and the rest will be elevated. Platform Stations are either lateral or central depends on physical conditions. Certain stations will be integrated with other mass transit line to allow the transfer of passengers. Escalators, lifts, toilets, information displays, public address, and all facilities for the handicapped will be equipped.
(4) Depot
The depot will be the same one of the Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line at Huai Khwang as it was designed to accommodate, at full scale, upto 500 cars. However, by an operation of the extension line, some additional equipment is necessary.
(5) Park & Ride
There will be a park & ride located at the end of Hua Lamphong –Bang Khae Section, by the Outer Ring Road.
(6) Track
Like Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line, 1.435 m. standard track gauge with bottom pick-up third rail will be adopted.
(7) Rolling Stock
The 750 Volts DC rolling stock with 3 to 6 cars will be used. The system should have a service capacity of more than 50,000 passengers/hour/direction.
(8) Systemwide and Fare Collection System
The signalling and communication system, power supply and fare collection system of this section will be the same as those of the Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line.
